Brendan Canty Scores ECV's First Win of 2008

posted 31 March 2008

ECV Member Brendan Canty, formerly of Salem, MA now residing in Lexington, Kentucky still wears the Blue & White and won the Promotion Cycling Lexington Criterium (similar to our area's Wells Ave series) this past Saturday.

Brendan, a hockey player who only started riding regularly last season, dedicated the win to his grandfather who died on Friday.

Another chapter in my racing results in the blue and white out here in Bluegrass Country ;)

This week featured a 1.2 mile loop crit (45 min + 1 lap) in an industrial park with one corner, the rest were sweeping bends. The finish was 'uphill', a 2% grade. There was a strong constant wind, but luckily it was a tailwind for the finish.

The field was 40+, cat 4/5.

I came around the last sweeper in about 4th wheel, jumped up the inside with about 320 meters to go (thanks for the accuracy, Garmin) and managed to gap the bunch and held on to a win by a few lengths.

I'm not sure which was stronger, my sense of elation or the burning in my thighs.

I hope you guys are all doing well up north!
